Ark: Archival Resource Key
Naming scheme for permanent access to CDL-hosted digital assets. ARK is a specially crafted, valid and persistent URL that encapsulates a unique global identity regardless of the current service provider. By definition, each ARK is tied to three things: access to an object, the object's metadata, and a multifaceted obligation to grant permanent access. With a single question mark (?) attached, ARK connects users to an object's metadata, with a double question mark (??) it connects a vendor commitment statement.
