I plan to subscribe to an online magazine and I will have that option later ... Does this mean that everything arrives in the mail and I have to pay by check? what is the meaning of this?

Money arrives later in the mail and you always have multiple payment options (including small coins at a time) whether you send the payment by mail or online.

That's what they mean, unless they ask for credit card information.
