Earth Station
A ground station is a set of devices installed on the Earth's surface that allows communication on one or more satellites. Ground stations consist of a reflector (or parabolic) antenna, a feeder system to transmit and receive an RF carrier, data processing equipment, and mechanical tracking equipment to keep the satellite within the transmit/receive range of the satellite antenna. Ground stations are typically owned by the company receiving the data from the satellite network and therefore must operate within certain predetermined parameters to maintain network stability. Ground stations are part of the ground segment of the satellite network, which includes all ground stations operating in the satellite system. They can be connected to end-user devices directly or via a terrestrial network.
