Polish and take pictures, offer for sale on eBay, pay by buyer. There are collectors of these items. Don't accept offers that are less than the cost of your survey. The only problem is weight. UPS or FedEx can estimate your weight in advance and provide an estimate of shipping costs.
Do this or contact the local flea markets and antique shops for advice.
Finally, put it up for sale in your local newspaper, ask the buyer to take it out and make it available in this economy.
What city and state are you in? I need one for my garage. If it's not in SD, you can add it to Craigs List or Freecycle. Ask someone else to use it, as most companies charge a fee for disposing of electronic devices. That way you will have a second life and you will not end up filling the earth.
Unfortunately, you will have to pay an EWaste fee to get rid of this TV. Check with your local BestBuy because you can sometimes deliver your old electronics there for free.
Your trash 80's items may now be considered vintage, but some collectibles. Your old television is trash.
