Higher Or Lower Number For Water Softener

With a water softener, the higher the hardness, the softer or weaker the water? 3

I set it to 45 and the water is not soft. Do I go up or down? I don't know about water in my city, all I know is that when I wash my hands I don't feel like soap and everything will help.

If it's high and low, why did I read that the higher, the higher the cost of your system?

I said I need to find the hardness of my water and the iron of the city. No tables, thanks for the help.

Up = down = smooth.
UPDATE: More = hardness of the amount of water used, maybe that's not the purpose of your water softener configuration? What does your sales manual say?
I have moderately hard water and I have 26 seats. But I don't have a water softener. Settings can be found in the user manual.
