You buy a one time subscription and you're ready to go. The main advantage is that you pay a one-time fee and receive all the released DLCs for Battlefield 4 for free after launch. Regardless of the platform, you also get access to Doubleexp and Weekend special articles and new content.

Is it worth it? by that time? Absolutely not. The game is barely working and I'm thinking of plugging in the disk and looking out of the window of the nearest EA store. The game started a few years later. If you want to play a lot on the battlefield it's worth it (which my friends suspect I did too ...), but if you have other games you want to play, then another Buy season.
