I have a big baseball cap and I want to reduce the size.

Acrylic is not something that pulls and tears the wool, so be careful.
If you plan to wash it in the washing machine, keep your cap in a slightly larger container so that it does not end up in the container.
You can machine wash the lint to remove the lint and then place it in a pre-heated dryer to dry. Or you can put it in the dishwasher (yes, it works great) and wash it in a normal wash cycle, but dry it in the heat instead of outside.
