My VR friend made a deal under the Kelly Lemon Act. Is there a tax on this amount?

If the trailer does not have lemons, the company will not be taxed if you return it to its original location. If the settlement gives you more than you lose, the rest of the profits will be taxed.

As other speakers have pointed out, sometimes court decisions and settlements are taxable - and sometimes not. A tax professional, such as a registered agent or accountant, can give you the best advice.

When your friend gets money to repair your car or a medical bill that is not taxable. If you have received other amounts, such as damages, interest or other damages, chances are you are liable to taxes.
