Object Request Broker
ORBs (Object Request Brokers) are an advanced middleware platform over their predecessors, RPC middleware, including program activation, which most RPCs did not provide. Full CORBA ORBs are transaction platforms that are particularly close to an object-oriented programming model, including activation and communication services, which are especially suitable for an object-oriented software model. ORB vendors have added transaction management, security, and other features to their ORBs to power demanding manufacturing applications. CORBA has become a widely used standard programming model for ORBs.
