Out-of-network Care - How To Discuss

Out-of-network Care,

What Does Out-of-network Care Mean?

A simple definition of Out-of-network Care is: Patient care outside the network of preferred health insurance providers. In most cases, health insurance does not cover these benefits.

Out-of-network care refers to the medical and health care that an insured person receives from a health facility that is not part of the insurance company's preferred network.

Insurers negotiate fees with members of their preferred preferred network. Those who work outside of these networks set their fees freely and may demand much higher fees for the same procedure. As a result, insurance can only cover a fraction of the cost of out-of-network treatment.
