P&C Core Platforms - How To Discuss

P&C Core Platforms

What are the main P&C platforms?

Core P&C platforms comprise a set of core IT systems that support the critical operational functions of a P&C insurer. This may include underwriting, quotes, policy issuance, billing and reimbursements and claims management. Ideally, these core P&C platforms should be integrated or delivered by the same vendor as a suite of software applications spanning the insurance lifecycle. Historically, many of these systems were installed on-premises, but cloud-based systems are becoming more common.

What are the business benefits of large P&C platforms?

Underlying P&C platforms offer a number of benefits:

  1. Cost savings. By consolidating business operations on one or more major P&C platforms, insurers can reduce the costs and administrative burden of integrating and managing multiple disparate systems.
  2. Simplicity: P&C's integrated core platforms make software maintenance and upgrades easier than managing multiple systems from different vendors. If the main P&C platforms are cloud-based, this process is even simpler, faster, and can be performed with fewer staff and at a lower cost.
  3. Detailed information about customers. P&C's integrated core platforms make it easy to get a holistic view of the customer and leverage real-time data analytics. In a single interface, users can see all the products that each customer has used in the past and is currently using. With the improved visibility that basic P&C systems provide, it becomes easier to analyze and predict customer behavior and unlock new opportunities for cross-selling and/or up-selling.
  4. Business flexibility. A better understanding of customers enables insurers to spot market and industry trends earlier. This allows you to respond more quickly to these changes, which can lead to increased profits and competitive advantage.
  5. digital transformation Modern property and accident platforms facilitate digital transformation, including the introduction of automation and artificial intelligence.
