Do palm trees like sun or shade? In general, sago palms need full sun to grow well. In coastal areas, it is best to plant them in full sun. Inland or in the desert they still prefer good sun, or at least some sun. Growing sago palm in shade generally results in long, elongated, floppy leaves.
