Sef2 Lewis Structure
Lewis structure of SeF2? 3
Hello people, any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't know why my answer is wrong, I would be very grateful if I could explain. I think only B is correct because there is no other way to draw the structure. I also tried BD in response, but it didn't work either.
Which of the following statements about the true Lewis structure of the SeF2 molecule is correct?
a) The structure has 14 valence electrons.
b) The atom will be the central molecule because it has two non-paired electrons and can form two bonds.
c) Only two F atoms have electron bytes.
d) Although there are many ways to stretch the structure, only one is correct.
SeF2
Number of valence electrons = 6 + 2 (7) = 20
FSeF has 3 isolated pairs on F atoms and 2 isolated pairs on Se atoms, which makes it a curved structure.
I would say that only D feels right.
B is incorrect because the two non-paired electrons in Se are not used to form bonds with the 2F atom (hence the so-called bonding electrons).
