Valued Policy Law (VPL),
Valued Policy Law (VPL):
Meaning of Valued Policy Law (VPL): The Value Insurance Policies Act (VPL) is a law that requires insurers to pay the policyholder the full amount of the policy. Insurance laws do not take into account the actual cash value of the insured property at the time of the loss, but the law requires full payment.
- The Valuation Appraisal Act (VPL) is a legal mandate by which insurance companies cover the full value of an asset if the loss is considered total loss.
- According to the NPV, the refund amount can be calculated based on the actual delivery value or the specific replacement cost.
- In the United States, some states classify assets on books, while others require proof of insurable losses.
Although most standard policies limit recovery to the actual cash value of the property at the time of loss, some states have special laws that can change or remove this limit. The most common of these rules is that companies are required to pay the full sum insured in the event of a complete write-off. In some states, companies can exercise their discretion to renovate or replace property instead of paying insurance premiums. These laws prevent companies from over-protecting certain assets. In general, the value law policy applies to real estate, not personal property.
