THE REAL STORY BEHIND VILLALOBOS RESCUE CENTER’S CLOSURE
In the 1990s, Tia Torres established Villalobos Rescue Center to save pit bulls. The group saves wounded and abandoned pit bulls and other breeds from all 48 states in the United States.
Since Tia is the only owner and a non-profit, it is not required to be accessible to the general public. But in 2012, Tia and her group decided to offer tours of canine rescue facilities to its followers and supporters. For the entire team as well as VCR, this particular choice led to numerous issues. As a result, they were forced to stop allowing visitors in 2016. What Tia had to say about closing down is included in this piece.
SUMMARY
As many of you are already aware, the plan to relocate Villalobos to Tehachapi, California, is no longer feasible. After investing numerous hours and resources in creating what was supposed to be a utopia for Pit Bulls, Kern County abruptly changed its mind and refused to issue us operating licenses.
A TRAIL OF DEATH
Torres, the star of the Animal Planet program that follows the daily operations of the Villalobos Rescue Center in New Orleans, was their most well-known supporter.
At a $50 per ticket fundraiser called “It’s Fur the Dogs!” held at Renegades Bar & Grill in Garden City in 2016, Torres exploited her fame to aid the two dog shelter owners in raising the money they said they so sorely needed.
In an interview with Hometown living on May 8, 2016, Sparks expressed her excitement about Tia’s impending visit. I’m eager to watch her connect with the dogs, learn more about what she does, and pick up some new training techniques.
According to the report, a portion of the fundraiser’s motivation was to make a down payment on a structure that might be used as
McMurtrie and Sparks were chosen by Torres to be her first apprentices in a new mentoring program that she said she was giving “for selected rescue groups.” Torres claimed on Facebook that she and the pair were “like-minded” when it comes to pit bulls.
At the time, Torres was described as “the right mentor for them” by Bark ant, an online publication about “awesome stuff,” because “Detroit and New Orleans share a lot of similarities with canine overpopulation and a troubled economy.”
However, McMurtrie and Sparks ran a shelter that the TV star helped set up for them rather than starting a new one in the Detroit metropolitan area. Before their relationship broke down, the couple relocated to New Orleans; last spring, they returned to Michigan.
Torres and the couple’s argument persisted long after he left.
The Day of Reckoning Has Finally Arrived, Torres Declared on Her Facebook Page and in Television News Reports on Tuesday, adding that the recent arrests “give us some peace of mind.”
We attempted to evict them from the place we put up for them in New Orleans after trying to aid them for more than a year before they started to hoard dogs, she stated. They locked themselves inside the structure, and it took the building’s owner some time to free them.

SUMMARY
Again, without delving into all the specifics, this last year has been demanding on both an emotional and financial level. having to struggle endlessly against the judicial system and “going through the procedure,” as well as the nonsense said by these two persons and their attorney. In the end, $100K was spent to save these five puppies (to recoup part of our money, I will be selling some of our assets, which will be shown in a future/separate piece). I had to battle because they wouldn’t give up (again, there are too many reasons to get into here/now).
THE OTHER SIDE
According to Cadoret, the couple left Louisiana because Torres was not who she claimed to be.
According to her client, Torres was manipulating donors’ emotions with the help of sad pets and them. Some of the dogs perished, according to Cadoret, because they were unwell and Torres wasn’t providing sufficient treatment.
Torres was “cutting them off,” according to Cadoret, while the pair asked inquiries.
The two had had enough by last spring. To transport the several canines they had been working to recover and rehabilitate back to Michigan, they placed them in air-conditioned vehicles.
Cadoret claimed that a third individual, Ecorse resident David Bowling, 30, who was also detained and accused of animal cruelty, assisted in operating one of the dog-transporting vehicles.
Ecorse police investigated a dog complaint in May.
An update on the case from Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy stated that when the cops arrived, they discovered 17 malnourished and ailing dogs in separate stacked cages in the back of a rental box truck, in filth and intense heat. At least three of the canines are claimed to have been taken from another animal shelter.
But that’s false, Cadoret argued. She claimed that the dogs’ frailty was not a result of abuse but rather that they had been abandoned after escaping violent situations.
The canines weren’t just abandoned there, Cadoret argued. “Tia Torres and some media outlets have presented Dave and Kayli as being in charge of those dogs, even though for years, their entire world revolved on assisting canines, especially pit bulls,” says Kayli.
McMurtrie was being held on a $50,000 bond after being charged with two counts of animal cruelty, three counts of receiving and concealing stolen property, and three felonies involving firearms. Along with Bowling, Sparks was held on a $25,000 bond and was accused of three charges of larceny as well as animal cruelty.
The defendants, according to Cadoret, “are adamant about their innocence.” "What they enjoy doing is rescuing and helping pets,

CONCLUSION
We’re going to “shelter in place” Every dog will remain indoors, and the personnel will be provided with the requirements as well as generators. Recall that we have experience in such situations. Since Hurricane Isaac, when we initially moved to Louisiana, we haven’t had a major storm. I suppose we were overdue. However, assistance with storm cleanup and repairs may be what we need. By Monday, the storm ought to be over, but I’ll keep everyone updated. We’ll learn more tomorrow as the storm approaches, but if you could just “pencil us in” and perhaps assist us with some water cleanup, dog walking, etc., that would be appreciated.
We would certainly appreciate it. Our thoughts are with the Afghan animal rescues who are currently facing considerably worse conditions than we are, although this is a frightening and unwelcome event. Bringing courage and a future to Nowzad and the Kabul Small Animal Rescue. The statement continued, "May the force be with us all.
