I want to experiment with watercolors, but I don't have watercolor paper. I have Strathmore 400 series construction paper, which has a little texture. Can I practice the technique with it? Weighing 60 pounds. I'm not making a masterpiece here, I'm just practicing. Can I use it? Or does it really spoil the color of the water?

Yes, you can use Strathmore paper to practice the technique. When the paper is very wet, it has a slight shine and curl to form a fine layer of ink on the entire surface. If you have a drawing board, you can stick paper around the edges and this will help a bit. The dry brushing technique, which uses a little water in the paint, is best practiced on this type of paper. Stainless steel mats can also be a good practice surface.

When water seeps into it, Strathmore's drawing paper breaks. Savings will not stop it. Watercolor paper is not really paper, it is cotton fabric. Unlike cellulose, this fiber is resistant to water saturation.

There are other alternatives to watercolor paper. There is an ard, a masonite slab covered with a typical Paris plaster that accepts water colors. Fredericks specializes in watercolor canvas. Daniel Smith Art Sip created plaster that can be painted on any surface, even water colors on those surfaces. There is even an uct called UPO which is a synthetic paper.

(Old, but for everyone who has visited this page recently ...) I've noticed that if you have a lot of free resume documents, it works really well. Can You can't use too much water, but they are fine. You can get 100% cotton sheets at Walmart or Staples for 10.

It's cheaper than watercolor paper and you get a lot of paper.

The paper on which you are drawing fits perfectly, I suggest sticking these pages together to prevent them from twisting. Help for example :)
