It could be thanks, written by someone who knows how to spell but can't. I really don't know why anyone should write a German word in a note written in English! I've heard people do things like that and it's hard. Maybe the author and the recipient have German, or the author likes it, or they are shocked ... I don't know. It really depends on many factors.
